Kindersley’s Dakota Buttar was at the biggest event in bull riding yesterday as the Unleash The Beast event is being held in Las Vegas this week. Buttar is sitting at world number 17 heading into the PBR finals. He is making his 4th appearance at the event and will look to improve on a 30th place finish last year. He placed 16th in 2017 and had has best placing in his debut year in 2016 where he ended up in 11th spot. Buttar remains on the hunt for his first qualified ride of the 2019 PBR World Finals.

Apart from the fierce PBR World Finals action, last Thursday night’s competition also revealed the initial roster selections for the 2020 WinStar World Casino and Resort PBR Global Cup USA, presented by Monster Energy.

Jared Parsonage from Maple Creek and Buttar, alongside Jordan Hansen from Okotoks, Alberta were the first three picks for the new coaching staff of Scott Schiffner from Strathmore, Alberta and Tanner Girletz from Cereal, Alberta.

Marking his fourth consecutive appearance at the PBR World Finals, Dakota Buttar went 1-for-4, with his event ending early after sustaining separated ribs when he was struck by a horn in Round 4.

Buttar recorded his qualified ride in Round 3 when he covered Accelerator for 85 points. The match-up was the second time the two met, with Buttar first covering the bull during the 2019 PBR Global Cup USA when he rode for Team Canada.

On Saturday, the Kindersley man was awarded the Glen Keeley Award for the third consecutive year. This award goes to the Canadian bull rider earning the most points during the season.

Dakota Buttar from Kindersley swept both rounds of the first night of competition and leapfrogged Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage to number 1 in the standings after day 1. Buttar entered the final event of the Canadian bull riding season just 32.49 points behind Parsonage and was propelled to number 1 in the national standings after the first night with a 2 for 2 performance first by topping Mish Mash for 86 points and then Finning Young Trent for 87.5 points to finish perfect on the night.

Buttar now sits number 2 in Canada after the 2019 PBR Monster Energy Canadian Finals in Saskatoon where he finished 5th in the event. He sits over 400 points behind Swearingen and over 500 points ahead of 3rd place Parsonage.

Buttar concluded the 2019 season No. 29 in the world.
