As most of the province braces for the first winter storm of the season, are you ready for what mother nature brings?

Winds up to 100 km/h are expected on Tuesday along with rain and snow.

Not only will highway travel be less than ideal, but this system could also create perfect conditions for knocking out power lines.

According to Moose Jaw deputy fire chief Mike Russell, here are some items you should have on hand in case the power does go out.

1. A battery-operated radio

2. Flashlights

3. First aid kits

4. 72-hour water supply

5. Non-perishable food

When it comes to cooking food in an outage, make sure you're not bringing in any type of fuel-fired appliance or anything that's going to provide carbon monoxide, which can be dangerous in the house.
