Distracted driving is a growing problem in West Central Saskatchewan, but the definition of what a driver could do with a cellphone while driving has been unclear.
The government of Saskatchewan is hoping to change that by updating the wording used in the Traffic Safety Act.

Residents of Saskatchewan will be banned from holding, using, manipulating, or viewing a cell phone while behind the wheel. The existing rule has just stated the "use" of a cell phone is illegal in Saskatchewan, and drivers caught texting and driving received a $280 ticket.

This change, if passed, will be put in place at the beginning of the new year and will provide more clarity to the meaning of distracted driving.

SGI Minister Joe Hargrave talked about the change in the legislature.
