The Kindersley Kobras started their first game of the season on a high note, and lead 14-8 going into the half against rivals John Paul II. KCS was looking for redemption in the home opener after two close losses to the JPII Crusaders last year.

The game was back-and-forth, and North Battleford took a 16-14 lead half way through the third quarter. John Paul II added to their lead by scoring another touchdown to begin the 4th, but the Kobras stayed within one score by shutting down the two-point convert attempt. Only minutes later, the Kobras got the touchdown they needed, but also failed on their own two-point conversion attempt and were still down 22-20.

KCS got some key stops and could take the lead with a field goal, but Kicker and defensive back Kevin Pinno was injured with under a minute to go. The Kobras were down by 2 with the ball and had a few chances to take the lead, but the Crusaders forced some late turnovers, and scored another touchdown for insurance.

Kindersley continued to fight until the final whistle, but fell short 29-20 to the John Paul II Crusaders.

The Kobra's next game is in Delisle on Friday, and will have an added significance after their previous matchup ended in a tie.
