Snow removal is top of mind for the Town of Kindersley to start the week. After west-central Saskatchewan was battered with a storm over the weekend, Kindersley is just one of many communities focusing their efforts on clearing the streets as best they can.

WestCentralOnline reached out to Town of Kindersley Chief Administrative Officer Audrey Hebert to get more information out regarding the snow removal process. When it comes to clearing snow, the Town operates on a priority system.

"(Priority 1) is your emergency service; ambulance, fire, police, those types of services, so that they are able to get out wherever they need to go. (Priority 2) is the bus routes." shared Hebert, referencing Kindersley's snow removal map posted below.

Hebert went on to say that once those roads are completed, work begins on individual roads. The Town does try to post their plans on social media as much as possible, giving residents a chance to move their vehicles off the street.

Town employees aren't the only ones taking part in snow removal. People and businesses might be clearing off at minimum their sidewalk, and sometimes much more thanks to equipment like a snowblower or skid-steer.

It's always nice to have all-hands-on-deck, but Hebert did share some reminders for residents taking clean-up into their own hands.

"Points to remember for residential snow removal are the basics; don't shovel your driveway or sidewalk snow onto the street, or your neighbours property."

Echoing a point from the Kindersley Fire Department, Hebert is reminding residents to be extra careful where they ditch their snow.

"We had trouble with people piling it on the hydrants. We ask you don't cover the hydrants, because then our fire department might not know where they are, and in a case of emergency, that could slow them down."

With the current situation it might be hard to find a place for the snow, but don't worry, because the Town has you covered.

"We know there is a ton of snow out there. If you have extra snow and you are able to move it, our snow-dump removal area is located just east off the new section (of road) behind Walmart. If you need to get snow off your property and want to haul it away, that is where you can dump it for no charge."

Hebert wanted to assure that they are doing all they can to return the roads back to standard winter driving as soon as possible. Regardless, winter is definitely here to stay for the time being

"We just ask the residents to be patient. We are trying and working as hard as we can to get the snow removed as quickly as possible."
