The Kindersley Culture Days start today and will continue on through the weekend.

Culture Days is part of a national initiative to celebrate the variety of cultures in individual communities across Canada. Kindersley's culture department have created the opportunity for residents to celebrate the numerous aspects which make up cultures in the community.

The weekend kicks off with the a creative writing workshop this evening hosted at the Kindersley library. The event is open for everyone of all ages, and it runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with Saskatchewan author Carey Rigby-Wilcox about her experience in writing and publishing books, reading excerpts from her work, and participate in activities with guests.

"Whoever is interested in participating will have these blank books that anyone who attends is welcomed to take and create something out of it," said Manager of Culture and Heritage Michelle McMillan, explaining the Friday night event. "It's great to see what anybody can create."

Saturday will feature the open studio which runs during the afternoon from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Residents of all ages will be invited to the Garden Gallery to meet local artist Devon Coles for an afternoon of discussing and demostrating art. "The event will be a little more of a come and go opportunity," explained McMillan. "Devon's going to do some demos of throwing pottery on the wheel, and showcase some different mediums of art he uses at the Garden Gallery."

The last day of Kindersley's Culture Days wraps up with the K-Town Chowdown. Participants will have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of dishes related from different ethnic backgrounds or inspiration. The event start at 4:00 PM and runs until 6:00 PM at the Kindersley Elk's Hall on Sunday. "It's a usual favourite because it's food, but it's always great to try new things," added McMillan.

The weekend will not only present residents opportunities to try out new activities and cuisine, but will introduce guests to others in the community. "We have a lot of new people in our community and are coming out to get engaged for different reasons," said McMillan. "It helps bring a community together, and share what makes them unique and excites them."
