As we've reached the last couple months of 2017, people are beginning to look back and reflect on the highlights and accomplishments of the past year.

One municipality in the region is being recognized for a major accomplishment which has translated into a staple program in the community.

The Town of Kindersley will be receiving an award for third place from the 11th annual Saskatchewan Municipal Awards for its Youth Committee program which runs through the high school and town administration.

The announcement was made in a release by the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards program earlier today.

Here is the description provided with the award announcement:

Third Place: Youth Committee (Town of Kindersley)
Winning Practice: Established a Youth Committee program to revitalize youth engagement, increase the contributions of young people, and support an intergenerational connection.

First place went to the Downtown Market Square (City of Swift Current) and second place to the Community Branding Campaign (Town of Carrot River and RM of Moose Range). A Regional Cooperation Award will be presented to the RM of Wilton, Town of Lashburn, and Town of Marshall for their Legacy Regional Protective Services program.

SMA says the purpose of the awards is to recognize communities which demonstrate innovation and excellence in local governments of all types.

An independent, six-member committee reviewed 13 nominations, submitted on behalf of 60 municipalities to choose the four winning projects. The committee included former mayors and members of SARM (Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities) or SUMA (Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association).

Kindersley and the other award winners will receive their awards on either November 7th at the SARM Midterm Convention in Regina or in February at the SUMA Annual Convention in Regina as well.

West Central Online will provide more information when available.
