Blizzard conditions hitting west central earlier in the week certainly brought an abrupt welcome to winter for people in the area, though many expected it after seeing what the system already did out west.

Skies were clear early on in the morning Tuesday, before visibility started to drop by the minute thanks to the blowing snow, and roads completely froze around the area as the sun came up. Treacherous conditions for most, but working ones for some.

“I pulled out a few around town there, and then there was that pile-up right near Netherhill,” said Eric Kozakevich with Competition Towing in Rosetown, “When I came through town it was all bigger stuff.”

He mentioned seeing his competition throughout the day Tuesday. Local companies helped with the mentioned accident eastbound from Kindersley, and Kozakevich noted different Rosetown towing trucks headed out as far as Marengo, where another large accident causing a road closure had taken place.

The name Competition Towing certainly supplies what is says, but as a tow truck driver, Kozakevich knows the vital nature of his role during times like what we saw on Tuesday.

“I took a call in the morning but I let them know someone else might be better. We have a heavy truck, but it’s in the shop right now,” explained Kozakevich, who shared that he has a relationship with the other tow truck drivers in the area despite the competition factor, “I’m here to help the customers, and try to get the job done safely and that’s that. I’m not here to step on anybody’s toes or do anything drastic.”

The snowstorm was just the start to a likely busy season for tow truck operators like Kozakevich, that is sure to be filled with vehicle boosts and different roadside assistance, and also the occasional winch job whenever some wild weather comes to town.
