Back in October through a media release, it was announced that SaskPower President and CEO Mike Marsh would be retiring. He is retiring from his role effective December 31, 2021, following a 30-year career with SaskPower that included seven years in his latest role.

Back in the November of 1991, Marsh began his career working at Boundary Dam Power Station in Estevan, and has held several supervisor and manager positions through his years at SaskPower. He became the Vice-President of Transmission and Distribution in 2007, Vice-President of Operations and Chief Operations Officer in 2012, and then President and CEO of SaskPower in March 2015. His previous time in the workforce saw him work 12 years in the construction industry across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Highlights of his tenure include making significant contributions that has lead to the ongoing success of SaskPower, like according to the release, leading SaskPower operations through a significant period of growth and increased infrastructure investment into the electrical grid during his time as a SaskPower executive.

Marsh has always been a strong advocate for safety, and a safe workplace for SaskPower members as well as the public. Other recent positives he oversaw was the initiation of SaskPower’s grid modernization initiative, making great strides in both Indigenous relations and Indigenous procurement, as well as eight renewable projects currently underway, all while navigating SaskPower through the COVID19 pandemic.

Marsh has been recognized for his work, as SaskPower achieved PAR Gold status from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business twice in a row, showing excellence in Indigenous Relations, along with being awarded the Sustainable Electricity Company title by the Canadian Electricity Association as only one of nine Canadian utilities to have received the designation.

"I'd like to thank Mike for his 30 years of service to SaskPower, and for his leadership in navigating a rapidly evolving industry," said Don Morgan, Minister responsible for SaskPower. "Mike's expertise has been a great asset, as SaskPower acts on Saskatchewan's Prairie Resilience Climate Strategy."

SaskPower’s search for their next President and CEO was started by the SaskPower Board of Directors shortly after the announcement. Find the full release below for more info on Marsh and his great career, and news on his replacement should be coming soon.
