A majority of west-central Saskatchewan students will not be in class Monday. Although more upcoming Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation job action is scheduled, it is not the reason for no classes to begin the week inside the Sun West, and Living Sky School Divisions.

Starting with the Sun West School Division, Monday is a planned Professional Development day as outlined on the Sun West calendar. Teachers will be at school, but no class will be in session.

Schools in the northern part of the region are being effected by the weather. The weekend snowstorm eventually led to a decision from the Living Sky School Division on Sunday night to go ahead and close all Living Sky schools, and offices for the day.

The closures are, "due to ongoing safety concerns and to support snow removal in communities division-wide following the winter storm. That statement was shared in a notice posted to social media, also sharing that classes will resume as normal on Tuesday, unless otherwise notified.

It won't exactly be a return to normal for students on Tuesday, as this week's STF job action has already been confirmed for local schools.

Both Living Sky and Sun West schools will be included in the provincewide withdrawal of extra-curricular support on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Tuesday will also see the withdrawal of noon hour supervision for all schools in the Sun West School Division. The current schedule also leaves the possibility for more job action to be announced on Thursday and Friday.

Teachers in the Regina area are scheduled to protest outside of the Legislative Building Monday. It's the first day of the spring legislative session, as protests will be running from 8 AM to 1 PM.
