Kindersley Town Council began their first discussion on what steps the town shall take with the pool situation. The last time Council spoke about the topic was when the majority of members voted against the option of refurbishing the old aquatic centre at the June 13th Town Council meeting.

Now, Council will be focusing on the beginning steps for their plan of building a new pool in Kindersley for the near future. As of right now, the idea is to demolish the old outdoor pool facility and build a new one in its place.

The question then is to figure out whether the town should pursue the option of an outdoor pool or an indoor facility.

There is a great possibility the Town of Kindersley will seek public input once again on which option residents would prefer. Council members admitted a great way for town administration to stimulate discussion and opinions within the community would be to introduce a potential design(s) to residents, so they understand which options are available.

Deputy Mayor Curtis Sackville mentioned how he hopes the new centre will be completed within the next municipal government term. He also believes budgeting for the pool will be essential for the next term. "It might be something where we base it on each year's budget," said Sackville.

One financial option available for Kindersley is for Town Administration to apply for a grant from the Building Canada Fund - an option which would help boost the town's chances of affording a brand new facility quicker. The Town of Kindersley currently meets the criteria to become eligible for the grant.

"We have an opportunity for federal funding here," said Councillor Lorne Janzen, explaining to Council members how he thinks it is a fantastic opportunity available for the town.

Councillor Vaughn Biberdorf was in agreement with Janzen, mentioning how Town Administration "should start getting into government grants", such as the Building Canada Fund.

Town Council also agreed funding should be in place before the project begins.
