It has been around two and a half years since residents of Kindersley were able to swim in their town's own pool.

But, town council have been addressing different options and ideas at their first meetings as they aim to bring a new aquatic centre to its residents in the near future.

Progress was made Monday evening at their third meeting as a council when Mayor Rod Perkins and councilors spoke with members from the Kindersley Pool Fundraising Committee (KPFC).

Members Jamie Henry, Roxanne Atkinson and Chantal Benjamin made a presentation to council about the group, its vision, and the progress made to date at the town administration office. Henry mentioned how the group started with 15 to 20 members immediately when the old aquatic centre closed its doors in June 2014.

Now, the committee has four active members who are looking to help in any way they can with bringing a new pool to Kindersley. To date, KPFC have held four fundraisers raising under $50,000.

Henry mentioned how the group would like to work with council in acquiring a visual representation of the potential aquatic centre in order to understand how much they need to raise. KPFC members added how they would like to create a fundraising thermometer to demonstrate the progress being made for the group's fundraising efforts.

After the presentation, council thanked the women for their great contributions to the community before engaging in the aquatic centre conversation.

The town are estimating approximately $2.4 million will be collected in three reserves which would contribute to the swimming pool.

Each member of council has an idea for what they would like to see in the new pool; whether it should be an indoor or outdoor facility is the decision council need to make in the coming weeks. Council expressed how they would like to discuss those options with KPFC in order to give them an idea of how much will need to be raised towards the project.
