After the earlier update from Kindersley Minor Ball that stated kids would most likely be held to practice to start the season, a more recent update has provided a path towards playing games.

“At our April 12th meeting, the Kindersley Minor Ball Board of Directors decided to affiliate with Baseball and Softball Saskatchewan and will move ahead with the ball season.” said Miller, “We understand the majority of people are wanting to play games right away, but right now it is looking like we will be focusing on skills development for at least the next few weeks.”

That news seems similar to the April 7th update, but a renewed sense of hope around vaccine administration in Saskatchewan is what Miller hopes will lead to games getting the go-ahead in the province. He provided the plan in this positive message.

“We are however hopeful that over the course of the next few weeks, the government of Saskatchewan will continue to administer vaccines (at the current average rate of approximately 10,000 per day),” stated Miller, “The case numbers will drop to a sustainable level, and we will be given the go ahead to play games by the end of May or the start of June.”

Vaccine supply and demand is obviously a hot topic, but success in that regard would go a long way towards their current goal of having all kids registered with Baseball and Softball Sask and the handing out of team equipment bags by the end of April. Miller says that if they are able to accomplish that, outdoor practices could start by May 3rd in a setting where masks are not mandatory.

In the event that practices were the only setting kids will get to play in this year, getting in the new batting cage project for some of Kindersley’s diamonds became a focus. Miller said that kids love their time in the cage, and if practice is all that will be allowed, the cages would make a great addition to help salvage this season. The locations of the batting cages are as follows:

• 1 at Supreme Source for Sports Field,
• 1 at Lynco Hot Oilers Field,
• 1 at Longhorn Oil and Gas Field.
• 3 at Flanagan Field

The project will see these 6 new, 55 ft batting cages installed around the baseball complex, and also add one new pitching machine to the program.

Current Public Health Order measures are in effect until April 26th in Saskatchewan, when they will be reviewed at that time.
