Austin Morrison from Rosetown, recently had the story of his car accident back in 2012 retold through a new book sharing similar stories. The book is called Smoke Signals: More Recipes for Disaster. Morrison says the book really brings awareness to the things that can and have happened, and the trauma caused by such events.

This is author Brian Humphreys second book, the first one titled No Smoke Without Fire: A Recipe for Disaster.

Morrison knows Humphreys from playing darts together in the past, and he was happy to allow him to share his story.

“I was actually honoured when he asked me, I had no problem telling him about it at all.” explained Morrison, “I have talked about it tons and tons throughout the years, but it’s nice to actually get it out there. I was honoured that he got me to do that for sure.”

Obviously the accident back when Morrison was 16 will stick with him forever, especially due to a permanent loss of hearing in one of his ears. Him and some friends were driving on the highway when they ended up rear ending a semi. Morrison ended up spending some time in the hospital, being banged up emotionally just as much as physically. Aside from the hearing loss, he is so grateful to be where he is today with his health.

“Still able to function and do stuff, I’m so thankful for that for sure.”

Humphreys approached Morrison to be apart of his book about 6-7 months ago after deciding to write his second book. The Rosetown native’s story is just one of many being told in this book. What the author tried to do was share everyone’s story and talk about life after, and bring awareness to different trauma situations.

Morrison can’t wait to finally sit down and get through the book. He believes everyone should read Humphreys’ book, and he has even helped sell 7-8 copies himself.

“I hope everybody buys his book honestly. He’s that good of a guy for sure.”

Not being afraid to share his story is something that has likely helped Austin get over it. Maybe it’s impossible to truly get over something so life-changing, but this book should help outline similar situations and tell real-life stories of the people who have been through it.

Brian Humphreys is based out of Flin Flon, Manitoba, and says copies of the book are available online through all major book stores worldwide.
