Agriculture has always been a vital part of Saskatchewan and Canada. Today is celebrated as the first Ag Day across Canada.
Candace Hill, Manager of Agricultural More Than Ever, spoke about the reasons for establishing an Ag Day, "The day was inspired by the farmers and individuals who are part of Canadian agricultural in addition to the organizations who are part of Canadian Ag as well. It's really an opportunity for us to come together as a community to amplify our story and connect with people outside of agriculture about where food comes from, how it's produced, and the people who produce it."
The theme for this year is 'Let's Celebrate the Food We Love'. Hill says that the theme was chosen because food is a great way to connect with other people. "With Canadian Agriculture being one of the industries that provides a lot of the food ingredients that goes into the food that people see on their grocery store shelves. It's really just an opportunity to create that common ground and connect over something we all have in common."
Hill hopes that farmers and people within the ag industry share their story and connect with those outside of the industry.
Agriculture More Than Ever is promoting events across Canada that tie in with Ag Day. Ag Day Events. They also encourage people to use the #CdnAgDay on social media and talk about the day, whether it be sharing photos of a farm or asking questions about agriculture.
