The Flin Flon Bombers and Kindersley Jr. Klippers played the first of two games at the WCEC on Friday. Both teams came out flying in the opening period, with chances for both sides all period long.

The Bombers finally got the ice breaker in this one, as Zach Cain, who was picked up at the trade deadline by Flin Flon, got his first as a Bomber on a nice deflection off of a Cory King shot. The goal was Cain's 15th of the season.

Kindersley came out with a strong effort in the second period and were rewarded, when Matthew Mazzocchi got his 10th of the season to tie the score. Cash Arntsen and Nathan DeGraves drew the assists.

Then just over the halfway point of the second, the Bombers got a chance on the powerplay, and buried it. Jaeden Mercier took a nice back door pass from Jacob Vockler for his 10th of the season, with the other assist going to Alexi Sylvestre.

Flin Flon doubled their lead on a controversial goal, as Vockler took a long pass from Sylvestre and appeared to back in the Klippers zone offside. The play stood however, and he beat Klippers goaltender Cody Jaman on the partial break.

Undeterred, Kindersley came back right away, as Jeremi Tremblay took an interference call right off the centre ice faceoff, and the Klippers went to the powerplay. Just 15 seconds into the man advantage, Spencer Paplawski put in the puck on a scramble for his 7th of the season, to get Kindersley within one. The assists went to DeGraves and Mazzocchi.

The third period was all Bombers. Even though they did not get a pile of goals, they took the play to the Klippers, and outshot them 20-5. If not for the spectacular goaltending of Jaman, with a little help from captain Brayden Koch, who stopped a sure goal after Mercier skated in the slot wide open and had a yawning cage, this game could have easily got out of hand.

Flin Flon finally got the insurance marker from Tremblay, his 21st of the season late in the third, and the Bombers held on for the 4-2 win.

The teams are right back at it Saturday night for a special Better Together Kindersley game at the WCEC. Puck drop is 7:30 pm.
