This is the first edition of a national final in three years. The tournament was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Coronavirus. It was labelled as dual purpose tournament:

  1. A celebration of Canadian Para Ice Hockey teams.
  2. A showcase of individual talent, skill and integrity.

Sledge hockey has essentially the same rules as ice hockey. It debuted at the 94 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Instead of wearing skates, each player is strapped to a two-blade sledge high enough for pucks to go underneath. There's 6 players per team on the ice, and the game consists of 15 minute stop time periods. More info.
