Canola along with cereal crops are expected to set some records across the province this year as far as yields and production goes.

Despite a late start to seeding, hot, dry weather recently is helping to finish off the crop.

Harvest activities are underway or just about to begin in most areas of the province.

Bruce Burnett, the CWB weather and crop specialist, says crops have been looking great in many areas

"The statscan report on initial production is indicating fairly good yields throughout the prairies near records or setting records in some cases. So that's resulted in what looks to be an excellent harvest in terms of production values. The only concern of course is, if we can maintain the quality of this years crop."

Burnett says while later-maturing crops are still at risk, current weather forecasts suggest most farmers will avoid frost damage.
