The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is excited to present the sixth edition of the Celebrating Rural Ranching Women conference in Maple Creek on February 2 and 3, 2023. Join us in celebrating the strength of Saskatchewan’s rural women where presentation topics will include research updates, a cattle market update, mineral management and will feature perspectives from industry partners, extension specialists, researchers and producers.

Thursday, February 2:

Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Maple Creek Armoury with the program beginning at 4 p.m. The Ministry of Agriculture’s extension specialists will start with six different stations where attendees can rotate through and receive short research and demonstration project updates. Topics will cover a 4R fertilizing forages demonstration project, a grazing management software demonstration project, poisonous plants to watch for, feed samples and sampling methods, strychnine alternatives for gopher control and a salinity demonstration. Supper will follow, and keynote speaker Lee McLean with Keystone Equine will close the evening with a discussion around challenges, opportunities and lifelong learning faced by farming and ranching women.

Friday, February 3:

Friday morning will get underway with a presentation from Dr. Karen Wagner on semen testing and report interpretation. A current cattle market update will be provided by Brenna Grant with CanFax. Dr. Bree Kelln, from the University of Saskatchewan, will present on pasture rejuvenation and the incorporation of bloat-free legumes. We will also have a producer panel where the topic of discussion will revolve around facing adversity and overcoming challenges on your operation.

Following lunch, Adriane Good, Livestock and Feed Extension Specialist, will discuss mineral programs and water quality for beef production. Stacey Domolewski with Beef Cattle Research Council will provide a presentation and the conference will conclude with a presentation from Farm Credit Canada.
