Construction of new stairs leading to the front doors of the Kerrobert Courthouse is on the horizon. Fundraising for the project has been ongoing for months thanks in part to multiple methods.

The Town of Kerrobert says money has been raised in a variety of ways.

“We got a $7500 donation from Enbridge, from their Fueling Futures grant program and we got a $30,000 Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation. We probably have about $90,000 in place. That's been an effort between the grants, community donations, the Restoration Society and then just what we normally budget for the courthouse for kind of trying to get some historical work done on it.”

The timeline for work to begin on the new set of stairs is anticipated for spring and summer once a contract is signed for an experienced contractor to work on the sidewalls because of the heritage tyndall stone.

“We have a company that we are just working out signing the contract with that will come and do the sidewalls because of the tyndall stone. It takes some care to dismantle it piece by piece and store it and put it all back together. We’ll then re tender for the main staircase construction.”

The stairs needed replacing after experiencing water runoff because of thawing and freezing which caused deterioration.
