1975 ~ 2022 (age 47)

In Loving Memory of Darren Anthony Gayton

Darren was born on November 22, 1975 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia.  He grew up and lived in the Springhill and Tatamagouche area for many years before venturing west.  He worked in Kindersley in 2007 for a brief period, before permanently moving to the area in 2014.

Many people in Kindersley remember Darren from his years working at the Kindersley Inn and Boston Pizza.  He is fondly remembered as being the guy that could talk to anyone, had a fun-loving spirit, and a huge heart.

He always had a smile and a story for those who crossed his path.  He loved telling a good joke and would do anything to make people laugh and smile.

Of course, the people he loved to make smile the most were his family – he loved his family deeply and had immeasurable love for his kids.  He loved to take them camping and on trips to Drumheller to see the dinosaurs and admire the hoodoos.

Darren was also a lover of music.  He is remembered as always watching videos of acoustic styles and songs and learning to play them on his guitar.  He loved to tinker with it and would teach the kids how to hold it and play it.  He would learn acoustic versions of popular songs and play them for the kids to calm them and put them to sleep, often laying one of the kids on his chest and strumming the song to them before bed.

He also loved to take his kids to the beach – though he always let them know that the beaches here didn’t compare to the ones back home in Nova Scotia and he was always so excited at the prospect of being able to take them all out there to visit where he was from.

He is survived by his partner Kasandra Mackay, his children Nathan Buker, Aryanna Mackay, Konnor Mackay, Mason Mackay-Gayton, Kaleb Mackay-Gayton; sisters Karen Langille (North River, NS), Kimberly Norton (John Beardsmore, Toronto); brothers Brian Gayton, Scott Gayton (Tatamagouche, NS); niece Bethany Norton; nephews Zachary Norton, Bryson Norton; great-nieces Kennadi Carde, Paige Carde and Jordynn Norton; and great-nephew Charlie Norton.  Darren was predeceased by his sister Cheryl Gayton, brothers Gary Norton and Kenneth Norton, brother-in-law Allen Langille and great-nephew Kenneth Carde.

His heart was always back home in Nova Scotia, so a service and interment will be held at a later date this Summer where his children will finally be able to fulfill his wish of visiting the area and home he loved so dearly.
