Estevan Police Service Deputy Chief Murray Cowan reported that the officer who was shot in an altercation with a suspect last Wednesday is "home with his family and doing well."

Cowan also said the EPS are providing support for members who were directly involved in the incident, along with its entire team.

Saskatchewan's Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) said police were in the process last Wednesday morning of photographing homicide suspect,19-year-old Justice Guillas, when he got into a confrontation and gained control of a firearm. An EPS member was shot and seriously injured. A second EPS member shot the suspect.

Both the suspect and the injured officer were airlifted by STARS to Regina. The officer's condition was reported as "stable" that afternoon. The suspect was pronounced dead that afternoon.

SIRT said the officer-involved shooting at the EPS headquarters took place around 9:25 a.m.

Police had been called shortly before 7 a.m. to a 6th Street apartment, where a woman - Justice Guillas' mother Karie Anne Guillas - was critically injured. Justice Guillas was arrested. The victim was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan that morning.
