The first race of the 2023 Flatlanders Speedway racing season will feature something different, with some other races being similar to year's past.

New this year is a touring series which will be all over Saskatchewan and into Manitoba as well. Club president of Flatlanders Speedway, Jason Hankewich explains.

“There's a touring series called the PDRA touring series, Prairie Dirt Racing Association. It's going to be a touring series that actually involves us, Outlook, Swift Current, Tisdale, Yorkton and Swan River. So, it's going to be a great initiative that's going to be actually going across Saskatchewan and into Manitoba. There are lots of locals that are going to be participating in the series. So, lots of them out there (at Flatlanders Speedway), trying to get their cars prefect to compete in the touring series.”

Also included on the weekend are mini sprints, which will be debuting this weekend. Hankewich goes into more detail about the busy Saturday.

“On Saturday, here, we're going to have street stocks, hobby stocks, thunder trucks and legends. We're also going to have actually a kid's class now. There's a thing called mini sprints; it's going to start becoming a local thing that we're going to start doing here now. It is ages 8 to 14, they're basically a glorified go cart is what they are, but if anybody has interest, they can give me a call at 306-430-1359 and I would love to get more children into this.”

Admission is $10, and kids 12 & under get in for free.

The action gets underway Saturday at 2:00 pm.
