The West Central region hosted a pair of special events this past weekend, each being celebrated as the "Harvest Festival."

More on the Rosetown Harvest Family Festival can be expected along with these photos from the parade, as the Town of Kerrobert held a similar event in their community piggybacking off the fantastic idea that once again went off without a hitch this year in Rosetown.

West Central Online spoke with Recreation and Culture Director in Kerrobert Bobbi Hebron about their inspiration for the special weekend.

"We actually took our ideas from Rosetown, because we know that their Harvest Festival is successful every year," said Hebron as they watched the neighbouring community's fun and eventually decided to take their own run at it this year. Another big reason to have it this past weekend was also to help support the Kerrobert Rebels during their annual homecoming game, "The Kerrobert Rebels do a homecoming game every Thanksgiving weekend. It was easy to centre our activities around that because a bunch of people already come out to that game."

The annual game was hosted under the new permanent lights for the Rebels, another reason to celebrate.

As far as Hebron's memory can go, they have never had a "festival" alongside the game. A summer event centered around the rodeo is the only thing close that crossed Hebron's mind for similar events.

"We have other weekends that are a good chance for people to come out and get together, but this Harvest Festival was a brand-new idea."

Hebron had lots to say on the weekend including how many people are already thinking ahead to plans for next year, but at the end of the day the goal of the weekend from the beginning was to give different Kerrobert groups a chance to raise funds.

Even though Thanksgiving provides a yearly chance for people to come home, spinning it into the special weekend was a great way to bump visitors to the community by even more.

Impressively enough there was no central committee for this year's event. One can only imagine what a full year of planning could bring to the West Central Community.
