It was another chapter in this heated rivalry between the Macklin Sr. Mohawks and Kindersley Sr. Klippers, and this time Kindersley got some solid goaltending from newcomer Daniel Dunn, and good play all around, and came out with the win.

The first period started off with a ton of chances for both teams, including two breakaways by the Kindersley Sr. Klippers. The first was by Shayne Neigum shorthanded on an ill advised pass by Macklin's Cody McKinnon at the offensive blueline lead to the break. Nathan Hargrave bailed out his captain making the save to keep the game scoreless. Then as soon as Darian Dziurzynski got out of the penalty box on the same penalty, he was given a breakaway pass by Brody Ryberg, but once again Hargrave stood up to the challenge, and bailed out the Mohawks once again. Macklin had two powerplays in the first but could not convert.

After 1: Sr. Klippers 0 - 0 Mohawks, shots 15-12 Mohawks

The Sr. Klippers got on the board first early in the second period, as Byron Ismond scored on a nice setup from Shayne Neigum to make the score 1-0 with 15:27 left in the second. The play continued to go back and forth after that, and the score stayed 1-0 thanks to nice saves by both Hargrave and Dunn. Macklin got a powerplay halfway through the period, but were once againt stymied by the Sr. Klippers penalty killers and goaltender Dunn. Kindersley got their first powerplay of the evening with just over 6 minutes left in the second, but could not double their lead. The Sr. Klippers then were called for another penalty as Tate Page was given a two minute penalty for check to the head and a ten minute misconduct on top of that. This time the Mohawks converted on the powerplay, as defenseman Mitch Brennan scored on a nice pass from Spencer Bast to tie the score with 3:33 left in the second period. Kindersley then got a late penalty, as Darian Dziurzynski got his stick up on one of the Mohawks with 11 seconds left, with the penalty carrying over into the third period.

After 2: Sr. Klippers 1 - 1 Mohawks, shots 14-10 Sr. Klippers in the period, 26-25 Sr. Klippers overall

The third period started with the Sr. Klippers shorthanded, but Kindersley managed to kill off the penalty and  get a nice push back after that. The Mohawks were then given a penalty, as goaltender Nathan Hargrave tripped Damon McKenzie going after a loose puck. The Sr. Klippers powerplay went to work, and on a shot from the point by Gage Misskey which went wide, ricocheted off the boards out front to Jessey Pocock who put it in by Hargrave to give Kindersley a 2-1 lead. It stayed 5 on 5 for the majority of the third period, as both teams had chances to get on the board, but both goaltenders remained sharp. Steve MacIntyre was given a tripping penalty with just over four minutes remaining in the third period to give the Mohawks one last chance on the powerplay. Macklin could not convert and actually took a holding the stick penalty with 3:24 left to negate their extra man. Kindersley and Macklin played 4 on 4 for just over a minute, but once again there was no scoring. Macklin pulled their goalie with just over a minute remaining, but could not keep the pressure on as Darian Dziurzynski scored an empty net goal, with the assists going to Neigum and David Dziurzynski with 48 seconds remaining. That's the way things ended, as Kindersley took home the win.

FINAL: Sr. Klippers 3 - 1 Mohawks, shots 16-15 Mohawks in the period, 41-41 overall

Thanks to some superb goaltending by newcomer Daniel Dunn, and Shayne Neigum picking up two assists while playing center with Kyle Donaldson and Brandon Cummings, the Sr. Klippers took home this tight matchup. The other new line combination included Damon McKenzie playing on a line with the Dziurzynski brothers. The Sr. Klippers played as well of defensive game as can be played in the SWHL, and if they continue to play like this, they could be a force as the season wears on. Next action for the Sr. Klippers is tomorrow in Hafford, and Classic Hits Radio will have the broadcast, with pregame show beginning at 5:45 pm, for a 6:00 pm Sunday puck drop.
