Residents will soon be able to use the revamped bridge on Highway 307.

Construction is now complete on the bridge which has been under construction for the last couple weeks.

People who use the highway including farmers, residents of Smiley, and drivers needing access to Highway 675 will be relieved to hear the good news. Residents have been using alternate routes during the construction.

The main upgrade made to the road bridge was widening the driving lanes, making it easier for farming equipment and larger vehicles to pass through. "It's improving that part of the road because of the side railings, and it was a pretty narrow bridge," said Eric Schmidt, a local resident speaking about the initial problems with the bridge. "It was trouble getting through with bigger equipment."

Initially, the project was supposed to take less than 2 weeks. But, unusual warm weather during this time of year delayed their work. "They ran into water issues because normally it would be bone dry at this time of year," said Schmidt. "Because of all the rain we had, there's still water trickling through the creek."

Locals will be hoping the bridge project will spark the decision for the government to invest in improving the overall condition of Highway 307 as well. "We've been told by the contractor that is what they normally do," mentioned Schmidt, explaining how companies will work on entrances and bridges before starting work on the road. "So hopefully that will be the start of it."

For now, farmers and town residents will enjoy driving on the upgraded bridge with no complications.
