Almost 100 thousand people in Saskatchewan have been diagnosed with diabetes, and another 175 thousand citizens suffer from pre-diabetes.

11 per cent of Saskatchewan residents are expected to have diabetes within the next 10 years, and around eight per cent of the population in the province is currently living with diabetes.

Unhealthy eating is a contributing factor for the rise of diabetes in Saskatchewan according to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Diabetes can increase the risk of having a stroke or heart disease.

The disease also costs the province hundreds of millions of dollars, and hurts local businesses by decreasing workplace efficiency. Statistically people who live with diabetes spend 15 per cent longer on disability leave.
