The Kindersley Klippers just held there annual spring camp this past weekend at the West Central Events Center in Kindersley.

The purpose of the camp is to identify players born in 2001 through 1997 who have the ability and desire to play Junior “A” hockey in the immediate or near future. The camp gave youngsters the opportunity to meet with Head Coach and GM Geoff Grimwood, and his staff and get a feel for team philosophies, as well as, evaluate the Klippers as an opportunity for themselves.

The Klippers desire was to make camp an exciting and challenging opportunity for players to reach the next level of their hockey career. Klipper staff evaluated players and used the camp to invite prospects to the clubs main camp in September of 2016, and help develop future prospects.

Head Coach Geoff Grimwood spoke with West Central Online and detailed a few specifics about the camp. He stated that they had about 125 kids in camp which he said was a very strong turn out. Grimwood went on to say interest in the program is growing. Coach Grimwood stated Tristen Carey of Swift Current had a really good camp and the coach is fully expecting him to be in the line up in the fall.

Geoff also went on to detail that Dave Hunchak, a former coach of the Klippers came to help guest coach throughout the camp. Dave has had a very successful career coaching and scouting in NHL.

Another thing the coach touched on was an interest in expanding the Klippers reach in West Central Saskatchewan. He stated a desire to play some neutral site games for the regular season this upcoming year with games played in Rosetown, Eston and Macklin. He felt their were people that would be fans of the team if the team did a better job of reaching out to those fans. He also went on to say it's very early in the idea process and nothing has been finalized or is imminent.
