The Kindersley Royal Canadian Legion received a nice surprise ahead of their hall's re-opening celebration.

David Burke and Don Furhman, two members of the Kindersley Branch #57, received a call from Randy Vold at Vold's Collision yesterday. The men were invited to the Vold's repair shop for a surprise, and were asked to arrive in their formal military uniforms.

Upon Burke and Fuhrman's arrival, they were shocked and surprised to find Randy and his wife Janice presenting the men with a transformed military helmet.

The helmet is a Dutch military helmet from 1956 which Randy Vold acquired recently. He decided the helmet should be donated to the Kindersley Legion ahead of their grand re-opening on Saturday, October 22nd. But, before presenting the priceless and historic item, he wanted to touch it up.

Vold's Collision customized the helmet with a beautiful paint job; the primary component of the helmet consists of the Canadian flag. One side of the helmet shows the crest of the Royal Canadian Legion, whereas the other side showcases the Dutch flag to commemorate the helmet's origin.

The other side of the helmet is accented with the Royal Canadian Legion crest.

The helmet presentation was special for another reason for Randy and Janice. Yesterday happened to be the one-year anniversary of their business, and there was no better way to celebrate the milestone. For Don Fuhrman and David Burke, they were absolutely thrilled by the donated helmet and its added artistic touch.

Furhman and Burke have decided to include the helmet as an auction item during the hall's re-opening celebration. But, they do stress the helmet must remain at the legion and be donated by the bidding winner after the bidding is complete. So, the historic piece will remain a donation item to the hall.

The grand re-opening is scheduled from 7:00 to 10:00 PM and will feature a pizza tasting contest, silent and live auctions. All of the money raised from the pizza contest will be donated to the Kindersley "Sparky Ament" Air Cadets.
