Jennifer Bews, an event organizer from rural Saskatchewan, has been busy planning a virtual event focused on well-being called Hindsight2020. The two day event starting on Wednesday February 24th through the 25th, will be busy with presentations, workshops, and entertainment from a collection of local and national speakers and entertainers.

Featured presenters for Hindsight2020 includes Dr. Jody Carrington, author of Kids These Days, Indigenous Rights Activist and Assistant Professor of Metis Studies Jesse Thistle, and speaker/entrepreneur Jess Tetu. Kindersley local and Social Clinical Worker Colleen McBride sits atop the Educators list, while local talent in Dahling Productions, and the Kennedy sisters with Life is Worth Living join the list as creatives. The event also aims to provide an opportunity for work-short entertainers, as Mitch Larock is set to perform, with producer, violinist and DJ Michael Fraser scheduled for the after-party.

Being presented through her own company Jennifer Bews Events, the inspiration for this event comes from Bews just wanting to get back into the swing of things after her maternity leave.

"I decided that I wanted to work on a project, with my business specifically hosting it," said Bews, "Hindsight2020 just sort of came to fruition, through watching everything that has been going on over the past year"

The event aims to be a springboard for Bews back into the business world, as she brings nearly 15 years of experience in marketing, communications, and events to the table. She also has previous experience with advertising, not-for-profit organizations, and other diverse industries.

“The conference is an effort to bring people together in Saskatchewan in response to a year that has brought on and brought to light many challenges and injustices in our society.” says Bews.

The target audience for this conference is Saskatchewan residents, specifically those who are interested in humanistic efforts, looking for ways to regain focus, struggling personally or professionally due to the pandemic, and looking for ways to connect during these isolating times.

Jennifer feels that the virtual aspect of Hindsight 2020 was important in getting multiple high-brow speakers for the event, with the current COVID-19 complications. Bews also said that a lot of the local creatives and presenters have not been able to show-off their work because of the pandemic, so Bews felt this would be a great chance for them to get their creative juices going once again.

Each of the speakers will likely take a different approach, but there is no doubt that a common theme being presented will likely be the crazy year that was 2020. Bews expects her guests to share stories about self-adaptations made over the last year, and to teach lessons about resilience in these times of crisis, stress, etc. The event is intended to allow people to show and share how they navigated the year using things such as creativity. The event as a whole will attempt to offer a mix of different perspectives on how to navigate through these trying times.

"My goal is to leave the world a better place than when I found it, and nothing energizes me more than helping humanistic-centered business owners who feel the same way."

Bews is currently completing a Bachelor of Professional Arts: Communications Major Degree from Athabasca University, to go along with her diploma in Event Management from the Art Institute of Vancouver, and certificate in Office Administration from MacEwan University.
