A 26-year-old man is facing a number of firearms charges after an arrest in Weyburn on Tuesday.

The charges stem from a search warrant that was served by the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team on November 21st of last year. During the execution of the warrant, officers found and seized a number of firearms, including two 3D-printed firearms.

As a result of the investigation, Justin McMahon of Weyburn is charged with manufacturing a restricted weapon, manufacturing a prohibited weapon, as well as a number of charges for possession of restricted and prohibited weapons he was not licensed to possess.

In a written release, Staff Sergeant Scott Lambie of the Crime Reduction Team stated it is illegal to manufacture a firearm unless you have a proper firearms business license to do so, and this includes traditional or other means.

“Illegal firearms can present risk to community safety and the Saskatchewan RCMP is committed to removing them from the street. Illegally-manufactured guns are of extra concern because they have no serial number and thus, can’t be traced if used in a crime,” Staff Sergeant Lambie added.

The investigation was assisted by the Weyburn Police Service, the Canada Border Services Agency and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.

McMahon is scheduled to make his first court appearance on these charges in Weyburn on March 8th.
