Every once in a while, there is a particular individual who stands out from the rest because of their great contributions to a local community.

Each year, the town of Outlook wishes to acknowledge that person by honouring them with the Annual Outstanding Citizen Award. This year, 2015's winner just happens to be community activist, mother, actor and all-around good person, Maureen Weitherman.

Born and raised in the town of Outlook, Weitherman grew up brandishing a strong devotion to the town she and her family view as home. Weitherman attributes her love of volunteering in community events to the other people who live in and shape the community to make it what it is. She says despite the growth of the community, Outlook is still the small town she remembers and the small-town vibes is what she really holds to heart about her home.

It has been an ideal place to raise a family, and she says her actions reflect the least she can do to give back.

Weitherman has been a long-time volunteer, dabbling in almost everything the town has to offer. She has volunteered at the Outlook Legion, has strong ties with the community choir, her local church and enjoys organizing and participating in local drama production at Outlook's Eqinox theatre.

When asked how she can balance and juggle so many activities, Weitherman claims it is the spirit of the community which allows her to be a productive member.

Weitherman will be receiving her honours at the Annual Community Appreciation Awards Banquet on March 10 at the Outlook Community Centre.
