The U18 Kindersley Royals were in Macklin this past weekend at the Tier 3 provincial championships for U18. The team got off to a fast start on Friday, as they knocked off Lashburn 13-7. The bats stayed hot on Saturday, as they pounded the Saskatoon Braves 12-2. And then in what turned out to be preview of the gold medal final, Kindersley defeated Dinsmore 8-6.

After finishing first in their pool, Kindersley drew Meadow Lake in the semi finals Sunday morning, and took care of business, winning 8-4. Then in the gold medal game against the Dinsmore Dynamos, the Royals fell behind 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but thanks to a big bases loaded clearing double by Ben Ortman, the scored was tied. Kindersley tacked on three more runs to lead 9-6.

After taking over for Jace Reichert in the middle innings, Ethan Hilbig was suburb on the mound, as he shut the door on Dinsmore, including striking out the final batter looking to secure the team's second consecutive provincial championship.

*****

Not only did the U18 Kindersley Royals baseball team take the gold over the weekend, some other teams managed to fair pretty well in provincial baseball and softball this past weekend.

One of those teams were the U17 Macklin Girls Softball team, who took home gold in the Girls B Provincial Championship. As for other teams from Macklin, the U13 Boys took home silver in their home tournament, as Nipawin won gold.

Congratulations to both teams, and all teams in the West Central region who won this past weekend.
