Over the weekend we are going to see a ridge set up over the prairies that should hold in place into next week bringing us some warmer temperatures and humidity for the week. Later in the week models suggest that ridge will break down bringing with it the risk of severe weather.

July is peak severe weather season in the Canadian prairies bringing the highest threat for tornados, large hail and damaging winds. We have seen moisture return to the prairies this year, after years of drought, which is going to contribute to severe weather threat increase this year compared to last.

July crops are mature and fuel moisture into the lower atmosphere, a key ingredient on the formation of severe storms. Its a good time to develop or review a severe weather plan for your family as a good way to mitigate dangers associated with this type of weather.
