Snowmobiling is a popular winter activity here in Saskatchewan. It's a fun way to get outside and enjoy the long winters we have come to expect in our province.

Cris Brewer, President of the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association, shared his number one safety tip, "Always make sure to head out with at least one other person and snowmobile especially during colder days. This way if something goes wrong you'll have someone else with you to help."

Some other things to remember when heading out is to pack a fully charged cell phone, wear proper snowmobile attire, and inform someone about your plans. Make sure that your snowmobile is well services, you have a full tank of gas,and the oil has been topped up.

Brewer also recommend making sure that you are wearing dry clothing each time you head out. He said, "Make sure to put your boots over the register or pull out the liners and dry them."

There will also be some new legislation regarding trespassing coming out in the next year. Brewer said, "We should always be respectful of people's property and ask for permission before snowmobiling on it."

All those born after January 1, 1989 are required to take the Snowmobile Safety training course. If you don't your insurance will not be valid and you may be subject to fines.
