An invitation to attend a Harvest for Kids event this winter led to a growing project in Southwest Saskatchewan.

Swift Current’s Brady Funk came back and seeded a quarter of land to Canola for the program; which sends children from third world countries to faith based day camps through Children’s Camps International.

He says the crop a Pioneer Hybrid Canola is now swathed and will be ready to combine on Monday, September 4.

"The response from the community has been fantastic," he said. "Our goal is to have 30 combines out and help us harvest, whether we hit that or not we will find out."

He says this is the first year for the project that will see 100% of the proceeds go to send children from third world countries to faith based day camps through Children’s Camps International.

Combines will begin rolling at about 10 a.m., he says everyone is invited to come out, take part or watch the harvest.

The land is located about 30 kilometres south of Swift Current on Number 4, the north quarter of the Blumenofm junction.

Two other Harvest for Kids projects are located in Saskatchewan, one in Dalmeny and one in Hepburn.
