Kyle Composite School will be getting a new but very experienced Principal in the upcoming school year. After twenty plus years teaching in Alberta and British Columbia, Penny Calvert is excited to be joining the Sun West team.

“We are very pleased that Penny has agreed to come to Saskatchewan become the new Principal at Kyle Composite School,” stated Acting Director of Education Vicki Moore, “we think her depth of experience and knowledge will be a strong asset to the school and community.”

Ms. Calvert received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba in 1992 and also holds a Post-Baccalaureate in Special Education from that University in 2009. Showing her own commitment to life-long learning, her most recent degree is from Walden University in Minneapolis where she received a Master of Science in Psychology in Educational Psychology in 2015.

Ms. Calvert is currently the Assistant Principal for the Peace Wapiti Public School Division in Grand Prairie Alberta, a position she has held since 2017. She started her teaching career in 1994 at Chalo School with the Fort Nelson First Nations in Fort Nelson, British Columbia where was a Pre-School and Kindergarten Teacher. She worked there until 2000 when she moved over to the Fort Nelson Public School Division and worked as an Elementary and Middle Years Teacher. She joined the Peace Wapiti Public School Division in 2014 and initially worked as an Inclusive Education Coach prior to becoming Assistant Principal.

In her career, Ms. Calvert has worked on programs that accommodated students’ individualized learning styles and implemented Balanced Literacy initiatives as well as school wellness planning.

“I am very excited to be joining the Sun West School Division!” Said Ms. Calvert. “I am looking forward to a new adventure with the staff at Kyle Composite School and getting to know the students and the school community,” she added.
