A traffic stop Tuesday afternoon on the Trans-Canada Highway near Morse resulted in three people being arrested.

RCMP, in a release, said the vehicle was clocked at 159 km/h in a 110 km/h zone. The officer pulled the vehicle over. As a result of the stop and investigation, which included a search of the vehicle, officers found and seized various drugs, including oxycodone, morphine, methadone, codeine and cocaine.

The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

One of the suspects was said to have a loaded handgun in his pocket. The firearm was seized, and RCMP stated the suspect didn’t have the appropriate license of certificate to possess the handgun.

Twenty-two-year-old Mujahid Babekir of Calgary, and 21-year-old Mustafa Saeed, both from Calgary, were charged with four counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Babekir was also ticketed for speeding and not possessing a valid driver’s license.

The third suspect, 21-year-old Matthew O’Connor of Winnipeg, is charged with six weapons offenses, as well as four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The three are being held in remand, and are scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday.
