With winter in full force, snow could happen at any time, and the Town of Kindersley has been busy over the past week or so, cleaning up the streets. Director of Transportation and Environment/Deputy Administrator of the Town of Kindersley Kim Vogel said the Town follows the Snow Clearing Priority Map.

“We do have a snow clearing priority map and we've got five different priority areas. Obviously our first priority is to ensure that the emergency routes are cleared first, so that would be around the hospital to make sure that ambulance can get out as well as fire department and the police. After that we do our main areas, our service roads, Ditson Drive, Railway Ave and then Main Street, we get those clear and then from there we get all of our school zones and the main bus routes in town. Then that kind of enters into the main roads in Rosedale, and then after that we fan out into all the residential areas,” Vogel said.

The Town of Kindersley is always trying to giver people at least a 24-hour warning that their streets will be plowed, and they are trying to not double up on garbage pickup days because of the carts in the way, according to Vogel.

“When we're doing scheduled snow removal, we try to do it around the waste and recycle pickup just so we don't have to go around all the carts that are on the streets. Sometimes we can't always do that, then we have somebody moving a cart just to ensure that we can get as close to the curb as possible when we're doing snow removal,” Vogel added.

There are lots of different ways the Town of Kindersley notifies the public of when they are plowing their streets.

“We update it normally the day before, just because there's lots of other events that can happen, and we can't necessarily plan farther than that, so we'll have it on social media. We have it on the Town of Kindersley website, on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, those kinds of things, and then we've got signs that we try to put on the streets the day before. Just so people know that okay, when they're driving home from work, oh okay, my street is due to be done tomorrow,” Vogel said.

There is also a free app which can downloaded to their phone, which alerts people when certain things are happening in Kindersley.

“We also have a Voyent app that people can download free onto their phone and then they can put in their area of either their home or their business, and then it'll alert you too, for certain things. And we use that app for everything from snow removal, street cleaning, waste and recycle pickups and then we also use it for emergency events, road closures, things like that. So, it's a really good app if people want it to download that on their phone,” Vogel also said.

Some points to remember from the Town of Kindersley:

  • Please try to take a detour if you see snow clearing machines in the roadway, it makes their job much easier!
  • Remove your vehicle from the street prior to 6:00am the day of plowing to avoid a ticket, tow, or seizure of the vehicle.
  • DO NOT clear your snow onto the street, it will undo all the work we have put in with our crews.
