Swift Current just hosted the Ford's Women's World Curling Championship this past week.

This is the second time Swift Current has hosted the event, with the first being in 2010.

Rob Dewhirst, event manager of the World Women’s Curling Championship, said the reason for Swift Current hosting for a second time was to do with the success of the first event. He also noted the experience was great and equally shared by players, fans, volunteers and everyone else that was involved in the event. He also went on to say that teams specifically came up to him to let him know just how appreciative they were of the outstanding work put forth to put on a world class event. Rob also mentioned that he was quite hopeful that they would be considered for the event in the future. With over 500 volunteers and thousands of fans throughout the event, the event coming back to Swift Current almost seems like a formality.

Team Switzerland won the event by a final score of 9-6 over Team Japan in the final. It was Switzerland's fourth world title in the past five years. Team Canada finished the competition fourth after being defeated by Team Russia in the bronze medal match by a final score of 9-8.
