Two 16-year-olds have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after an incident in Grandmother’s Bay, which is 90 kilometres north of La Ronge. 

The RCMP responded to a call on October 8th to check on a resident of the community after a resident was unaccounted for. Officers arrived at the scene and entered the home, where they found the body of a man. He was identified as George Roberts, a 55-year-old resident of the community. 

The initial investigation determined the death was suspicious, and officers began the follow-up investigation. The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit South led the case, with assistance from the RCMP in Stanley Mission and La Ronge, the Prince Albery and Tisdale Forensic Identification Services, Saskatoon and Prince Albert Provincial General Investigation Sections, Major Crime Unit North and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. 

The two youth were identified and arrested on October 12th. They cannot be named or identified publicly under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Both of the youth are charged with second-degree murder, robber and break and enter with the intent to commit an indictable offence. 

The pair made their first court appearance in La Ronge on October 14th.
