Another Meal in the Field delivery went out on Monday, September 18th.
Chris Weibe entered his ballot into Central Plains Co-op and was the sixth winner of our Meal in the Field contest.
Chris operates a farm North of Fiske with his partner Alli Harris. The Weibe family originally purchased the land in 1950, after coming overseas from Germany.
Chris said this harvest season has been going quite well.
"It's been really good." Weibe said. "very good yields, super quality and the end is in sight. It's been great harvest weather."
Chris said he figures their about 90 per-cent done harvest. He said it's been a dry season, but the 500 mm of rain they received last season was enough to produce this year's crop.
Weibe said over the entire growing season, they probably received around 3 to 4 inches of rain.
In addition to looking after some cows, chickens and a pig, the family harvests canola, durum, hard red spring wheat, barley, lentils and peas with canola being the most prominent of the crops.
"You know really everything has been good," Weibe said. "quality is excellent on everything, cereals, especially wheat have been yielding very high."
He said this year's yields have been better than he expected they would be given the dry weather we've had.
Now they're working to finish up harvest in the next few weeks, and hope to receive some decent showers once they're done.
