Congratualtions going out to our 8th and final Meal in the Field winner of the year.
Jon and Jodi Kadler run a third generation farm north of Rosetown and entered their ballot at Central Plains Co-op. They received their meal from A&W on Monday September 21st.
The Kalder's finished up harvesting last Monday and grew wheat, barley, peas, lentils and canola this year.
Jon said the harvest this year was better than he was expecting.
"Actually everything was better," Jon said. "peas were down a little and the lentils were down a little. They're an average crop for this year, I was hoping for a bit more but the wheat was better than last year even, and canola was about the same as last year."
The Kadler's received about 22 inches of rain last year and only around 2 inches this year. Jon said he was caught a bit off guard by how well some of the crops fared in the dry conditions.
"It was all subsoil," Jon said. "quite surprising, it's amazing what two inches of rain can grow."
He said moving forward, they're hoping for some decent downpours to replenish some of the topsoil moisture.
"We're gonna need the moisture now, that's for sure," Jon said.
