Kindersley Bids Farewell to The Tragically Hip

Viewing parties were held across Canada over the weekend, including in Kindersley, and 11.7 million people all over the country watched, and listened to what was expected to be The Tragically Hip’s final show.

The concert had an added meaning for fans of The Hip, after 52-year-old lead singer and lyricist Gord Downie, announced that he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year.

The band’s emotional final performance lasted nearly 3 hours, and inspired viewers to give $200,000 over the weekend to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.

The show was held at Rogers K-Rock Centre on Saturday in Kingston, the band’s hometown, and was the final stop on their recent “Man Machine Poem” tour.

Known as one of Canada’s biggest rock bands, The Tragically Hip began the tour in Victoria on July 22nd.

Although the tour is over, the band will continue to raise funds for brain cancer research.

Mix 104 Takes on Pokemon Go!

The new Pokemon Go game was a hit before it was even released in Canada, and now with Nintendo's stock making a record breaking jump in Japan and around the world it is safe to say there is a bit of a Pokemon craze going on!

Here at Mix 104 we thought we'd see exactly what the craze is all about!

Even the Kindersley RCMP are getting in on the fun!

The RCMP had a little fun with the game, but also had a very important reminder to have fun and stay safe!

"In the late morning of July 18th, 2016 Kindersley RCMP were called to a possible trespasser on private property. When RCMP Cst. Hill arrived on scene of a private lot he encountered a light blue creature that resembled a turtle.
The little pip-squeak was very cooperative and was transported to the Kindersley RCMP Detachment where his family was called after he was taught how important it is to stay safe while playing #PokemonGo.
Yes, we have already gotten more than a handful of calls in relation to the game. We love #PokemonGo just as much as you and if you feel the need to run around playing it this summer, that’s cool, just be smart about it. Always be aware of your surroundings, this also includes looking both ways before crossing the street, respecting private property at all times and not playing the game while driving." -Kindersley RCMP Facebook Page
