There's a definite sense of anticipation in the air as Rosetown gets ready to host one of the town's biggest sporting events of the year.
The Rosetown Curling Club will be hosting their 22nd annual Rosebud Women's Curling Bonspiel from March 17th to 19th at the Rosetown Curling Rink.
It's an annual bonspiel for women that attracts curling clubs from all over West Central Saskatchewan, and has been very successful for the club and the town in past years.
It was started after the Rosetown Rosebowl Men's Curling Bonspiel proved to be especially prosperous.
The numbers of clubs participating has gone down over the year's. The club used to pull in around 40 teams for this event. Last year they only had 19 clubs participating though Laura Slocombe the organizer for the event, says the spiels are as entertaining as ever.
"Numbers have dwindled in the past, but we get all ages and ranges," Slocombe said. "We've had teams from Saskatoon that have been relatively consistent, they've been there (in the spiel) for I believe 19 of those 22 years. Quite nice to see those familiar faces again as the years come on."
So far there are 9 teams have registered so there is plenty of room for more admissions. The bonspiel will feature cash prizes for winners, donated by local businesses and there will also be a banquet held on Saturday night.
Those who do not participate in curling are still welcome to attend the banquet. Funds raised from the event will go towards upkeep for the curling club in Rosetown. To get tickets for the supper or to sign up for the bonspiel, call Laurie Slocombe at 306-831-6606.
