Carissa Hogen is returning as #16 for the AAA Female Midget Swift Current Wildcats.
The Swift Current Wildcats are a member of the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League (SFMAAAHL).
Carissa's dad, Duane Hogen, explained why she chose to go to Swift Current for hockey, "They don't have a girls Rosetown team anymore, so you go to the surrounding communities. Your options are Swift Current, North Battleford, or Saskatoon, which is all AAA league so it's the highest level for girls midget hockey."
Duane Hogen said Carissa switched positions this year but she's been adjusting well so far, "Things are going good, she played defense last year and a little bit of forward. They moved her up to forward this year and she had a good weekend of playing."
The Wildcats had their preseason tournament this past weekend and the team was able to go undefeated.
In their first game of the weekend, Wildcats took down Kimberley, 4 - 2. Their second game ended in an 8 - 2 win against Pilot Mound. Wildcats then capped off the weekend with a 5 - 4 win against Central Plains.
Hogen was a major contributor to the Wildcats 3-0 record. She scored 1 goal and had 6 assists, which makes her one of the front runners for points on her team so far this season.
Wildcats Head Coach, Terry Pavely, commented on Hogen's start to the season, "Carissa Hogan who played defense for us last year but we moved her up to forward this year and she had seven points, a goal and six assists. She transitioned to a new position really well and that was really good to see, and it's no surprise that they are good players but it was surprising that they were able to contribute that much offensively right off the get go for us."
Hogen and the Swift Current Wildcats will kick off their regular season this Saturday. They will travel out to Weyburn to face the Gold Wings.
