A petition has been started by a local hockey player targeting the attention of various leaders, regarding the topic of allowing university/college sports to proceed. Kolby Johnson is attending school and playing hockey at Trinity Western University in Langley BC, and started a petition that looked to reach a 1000 signature goal. It gained its first 500 signatures in one day, and sits around 700 just several days after the initial post.

The reason he decided to put together this petition, was due to the lack of control the players themselves have had in the process. As read from the petition, their sports were taken away from them without ever being allowed to be a voice in the process, after USPORTS announced that they will not be able to offer championships for any winter sports. Cross country travel is cited as one of the main issues, but some student athletes feel there hasn't been enough honest discussion on the repercussions a cancelled season could have.

Johnson believes that sports are a universal language, and that it crosses all social, economic and racial barriers – and provides an opportunity to express who we are as human beings.
