This Friday will mark the 23rd time the Kindersley Klippers will take part in the SJHL post-season during the league's 50th anniversary.

After dropping from first in the division to second during the last couple games of the season, the Klippers ended the 2018-2019 schedule as the 5th seed in the playoff bracket. To start things off this year, they'll duke it out against the 4th seed in the league – the Melfort Mustangs.

Melfort was in a divisional battle of their own with the Nipawin Hawks throughout the season. The Hawks, who are the defending Canalta Cup champions, edged the Mustangs during the last couple games on the calendar for the division and league pennants, pushing Melfort down second place in the Sherwood Division.

Featuring two teams who were battling at the top of the standings for the majority of the season, this quarterfinal round between the Klippers and Mustangs has presented hockey fans with a mouth-watering matchup to begin their playoff quests. Both teams will be hungry to book a spot in the semifinals to show they are better than a second-place finish in their respective divisions.

Although, the Klippers will want to forget how their season series went with the Mustangs during the regular season. Melfort led the matchup five wins to one as Kindersley lost five straight to their opponents this winter.

The Mustangs have home ice advantage on their side in this series. Games 1 and 2 will be at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort, and Games 3 and 4 will have the teams at the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley next Monday and Tuesday. If necessary, Games 5 and 7 are in Melfort while Game 6 is in Kindersley. All games are at 7:30 p.m. CST.

The series begins on Friday, March 15th at 7:30 p.m. from the Northern Lights Palace.
