The high school football regular season schedule wraps up tonight with a number of games across the region.

One of the teams in action will be the Kindersley Composite School Kobras (2-3) who are looking to finish the season with a .500 record.

The Kobras will be hosting the Meadow Lake Spartans later today at Rotary Field in what should be an interesting matchup. As of right now, the Kobras look poised to finish in third place and have a home playoff game. But, the players and coaching staff are not underestimating their opponents.

"It was nice to see them pull out a win against [John Paul II Collegiate]," said Kobras head coach Tavis Lehman. "We're not counting them out, that's for sure."

Last season, the Kobras finished with a record of four wins and two losses heading into the 2016 playoffs. Lehman discussed how it has been an "up and down" season for his team this year, but there is still a chance to grab momentum.

"I'm hoping this last game can pick us up before we head into playoffs," he said.

Local charity taking part in the game

Kindersley Composite School will be teaming up with a charity for a fundraiser at the Kobras game today.

A number of local businesses have stepped up to contribute to the fundraiser for local group Life Is Worth Living BCK and the school. According to Lehman, the money raised for the fundraiser will depend on how many points the Kobras score against Meadow Lake.

"For every touchdown, we're sharing $870 with Life Is Worth Living," explained Lehman. "The players really appreciate it and it really helps them with their football experience."

Members of the coaching staff were able to organize the fundraiser during the season heading into the last home game on their schedule. "It's great to get the community and the businesses together to get behind local charities and the football team," Lehman added.

It's a genius idea; have your players score as many touchdowns to raise money for themselves AND a local charity? No doubt fans will be treated to a high-offensive display this evening.

Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM at Rotary Field next to the high school. Consider wearing layers and bringing some blankets as well. Temperatures will be hanging above 0°C as they start to cool down closer to nightfall.
