Klippers can't get past Broncos

After finishing up a four game road trip from last weekend, the Kindersley Klippers began a five game home-stand that started yesterday against the Humboldt Broncos. Humboldt was victorious in a 4-2 victory over Kindersley.

The Klippers haven't had much success so far this season when they have faced the Broncos through their first five match-ups, as the Broncos have a perfect record of 5 wins and 0 losses while the Klippers only have an overtime loss to show for.

Humboldt got on the scoring sheet in the first period with just over a minute left in the frame to take a 1-0 lead. Logan Hunter of the Broncos scored his 11th goal of the season and would continue to get on the score sheet as the game went on.

Kindersley had some great chances to tie the game up in the second period with two early power-play opportunities in the first five minutes. However, Humboldt's goaltender Jacob Wassermann made some key stops on the penalty kill to maintain the 1-0 lead for his team. Humboldt would eventually get back to playing 5-on-5 hockey and shortly extended the lead to 3-0 with two quick goals.

Late in the second period, the Klippers would catch the Broncos sleeping on defence, as Tanner Thompson walked in and made no mistake as he went blocker side on Wassermann to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes of play. Its Thompson's 9th goal of the season, assisted by Nikolas Malenica and Eddie May.

Halfway through the 3rd period, Kindersley's new forward Keillon Olson had a chance to bring the game within a goal, but was denied by Wassermann with a big glove save. Just 30 seconds after the save, the Broncos found the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game with 9:26 left in the final frame.

Olson was able to find the back of the net on a power-play later on in the period to make it a 4-2 game. After some crisp passing from the Klippers, Olson made a smart hockey play by faking a pass and making an excellent shot near the top corner of the net.

With just over three minutes left in the game, the Klippers decided to pull Justen Close to try and score a quick goal but neither team was able to add to the scoreboard at this point.

A close game against the Hawks

Kindersley had a great chance to bounce back hosting the Hawks on Wednesday night, the game was a close match up that saw two goals from Devon Cyr and Bryson Cecconi getting his first as a Klipper.  A holding call at the end of the game saw the Hawks score in the final minute to win the game 4-3.

Next up for the Klippers they are back at the West Central Events Centre Saturday night against the Melfort Mustangs.
